Now in it's 13th annual edition, the three day long neighborhood wide event presents the wildest and wackiest of experimental art across all mediums and boundaries. Spontaneous happenings lurk around every corner at indoor and outdoor locales. High art meets low as unbridled expression runs amok in the streets. Come one, come all and roam the hood seeking meaning in it all, but if at anytime you need to dive out of the way of a rampaging mob of hippies clad in yarn and sparkles, then dip into halcyon where our DJs will be providing an oasis of beats all weekend long. -

Posted on September 12, 2009 | No CommentsWe nearly choked our friends at the Brooklyn Flea when they told us they were holding their annual all-vinyl edition right at our shop's doorstep and they wanted us to be a key sponsor... and that it was to be on the MORNING AFTER our 10th Anniversary Party! But for the love of vinyl were their lives spared. "We'll be there," we said. You should be there too. If for nothing else, to poke fun at us all ruffed and being attacked by hordes of nerds. Seriously, it's gonna be a good time. Lot's of cool vendors, a fashion section (how couple's minded) and killer food trucks. -
halcyon DJs add the knockout punch to the 3rd annual Dumbo Fight Night Fundraiser
Posted on August 20, 2009 | No CommentsThis past Saturday, the newly opened pedestrian walkway beneath the Manhattan Bridge, located directly across the street from halcyon the shop, was the sight of the 3rd Annual Dumbo Fight Night. Organized by Gleason's, the oldest continuously operating boxing gym in the US, and the Dumbo Improvement District, the amateur exhibition consisted of 16 bouts of pure pugilism punctuated by heavy hitting beats provided by halcyon. The night raised funds for the continued restoration and maintenance of the majestic archway space. -

Posted on April 15, 2009 | No CommentsIt's a special day at the shop this Saturday as halcyon once again takes part in Record Store Day, a global event held in honor of, well... us! Now in it's 2nd year, Record Store Day is a coordinated campaign designed to celebrate the unique culture and community surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds more abroad. Participating shops host an array of events showcasing their individual contributions to their local music scene. At halcyon, we will be takin' it to the street for the onset of spring weather where we'll treat Dumbo to eclectic 100% vinyl (yo, it's not mp3 Store Day) sets from some of our favorite past resident DJs and a few special guests. We'll also be taking the opportunity to spruce up the old joint with a new outdoor mural painting by our first ever employee, the supremely talented Oliver Vernon. Inside, music fans will find special offers, limited commemorative releases and deep discounts by the hour covering our entire inventory, which, if you haven't combed through it lately, is better than ever!
