In the summer of 2007, accompanied by filmmaker Emmett Malloy and a few 16mm cameras, The White Stripes headed north on an ambitious journey across Canada, planning to play a show in every province and remote territory. The end result was Under Great White Northern Lights, a visual and emotional feature length film documenting one of the world’s most enigmatic bands as they trekked from local bowling alleys to city buses, performing, for the first time in a decade, for audiences that mostly had no idea who they were. Forced once again to make a first impression with their music, the White Stripes deliver one of the more compelling concert films in recent memory, culminating in their Tenth Anniversary show at the historic Savoy Theater.
