halcyon presents Unsound Festival New York, a FREE 17 track companion download to the North American debut of the acclaimed Polish-based electronic music and innovation series
Unsound Festival New York arrives at venues throughout the city Feb. 4-14th. As a primer to the wide spectrum of US and European-based electronic music artists being showcased, halcyon has teamed with Unsound Festival curator Mat Schulz to present the official Unsound Festival New York Sampler, available by download for a limited time only, exclusively via halcyondigi.com.
Mirroring the diversity of the festival, the FREE compilation runs the gamut from avant-garde compositions and improvised experimentations to raw Acid House sensations, meticulously crafted technoid creations, deep Dub vibrations and anthemic Disco temptations. The sampler boasts the first ever release by Solid State Transmitters (German producer Sebastian Meissner/Klmek with Polish quartet Kwartludiu) and the hotly anticipated production debut of New York favorite, Derek Plaslaiko; along with exclusive or unreleased contributions from Static, DJ Qu, Zenial, and Blondes; plus appearances by Detroit luminary Carl Craig, Polish tech-house powerhouse Jacek Sienkiewicz, Belarusian dubstepper Pavel Ambiont and NYC-based Planet Mu artist FaltyDL.

About Unsound Festival New York
Mark your calendars – Feb. 4–14th, Unsound Festival New York arrives at venues throughout the city. Ten days may seem ambitious for a music festival, but this is not your ordinary hedonistic rump-shaking party marathon. Since Unsound launched in 2003, this Polish-based festival has gained international recognition for exposing audiences to the experimental and multimedia aspects of electronic music through a spectrum of informative and innovative events. Sure, there will be a slew of parties to choose from, but with all the panel discussions, workshops and sound art performances to attend in between the dance floor action, we guarantee you’ll come away with more than the usual post-festival hangover.
Highlights of the festival include the first ever US appearance of The Moritz Von Oswald Trio at Le Poisson Rouge, and Detroit legend Carl Craig teaming with the avant-garde German duo, nsi as part of the Warhol Series at Lincoln Center, where each artist will play commissioned electronic soundtracks improvised to screenings of Warhol’s films “Blowjob” and “Kiss.” Germany’s Groupshow are also scheduled to accompany Warhol’s “Empire” for an eight-hour live session! Other artists of note are Amsterdam’s Newworldacquarium and Cocoon’s Jacek Sienkiewicz. Both are scheduled to perform at one of the three Bunker ragers organized by DJ Spinoza, who will be dropping by halcyon this Wednesday, Jan. 20th, to discuss his involvement with Unsound Festival New York and play some festival related artists on halcyon’s new internet radio show, The Bandwagon. For a quick preview of Spinoza’s sound selections, check his Unsound of Now chart on halcyondigi.com
Naturally, a preview of the festival would be incomplete if we didn’t give a big shout out to the Brooklyn Electronic Music Showcase, featuring a mixed bag of Italo-house and Nu-Disco beats served up by homegrown talent Neurotic Drum Band (aka John Selway and Ulysses,) along with live electro duo Blondes, and Morgan Geist of Metro Area fame. Another halcyon favorite, Ezekial Honig, will host a night showcasing the roster of his Anticipate label and former halcyon staffer, now international house music don, Levon Vincent will have the honor of DJing at the Moritz Von Oswald Trio show. Many of the artists mentioned above are featured on our exclusive compilation sampling a selection of new and unreleased productions by the festival artists. However, NYC’s rich crop of DJ/Producers are only the tip of the iceberg. Coming to Unsound Festival New York is a wave of fresh talent largely unfamiliar to US audiences – many of them part of the Eastern Promise project, one of the cornerstones of Unsound that aims to expose hidden talents emanating from east of Berlin’s prominent music scene.
So, clearly it will be a jam-packed but promising ten days of back-to-back performances, parties, panels and installations amounting to a landmark meeting of the minds between the NYC electronic music community and it’s counterparts from abroad. To help you keep up on the proceedings, halcyon’s staff of music nerds will be deployed, providing a constant stream of live updates as well as a daily recap of the previous night’s events. Be sure to follow halcyon_nyc on twitter to keep in the loop and check our blog on halcyonline.com for daily reviews and up-to-the-minute festival news.
