Sometimes less is more and the Bunker proved that when it went from a weekly one room party to a monthly 2 room format. Now packing twice the punch and 4 times the hype, it’s a no miss event on the techno calendar. Bunkers formidable trio of residents are joined by Berliner Ben Klock, whose recent LP on Ostgut is one of the finer electronic LPs of the year thus far, Sandwell District, an outfit headed by ex-NYC, now Berlin techno maven Function, and bunker favorites Miskate and Ryan Crosson.

Fri 04.03 - THE BUNKER with Ben Klock+ Sandwell District + Ryan Crosson + Miskate“While Marcel Dettmann was the most talked about artist in techno in 2008, it seems that 2009 may very well be fellow Berghain resident Ben Klock‘s year. Through his slow stream of 12″ releases over the past five years for BPitch, Memo (a BPitch sublabel), and his own Klockworks, it was clear that Ben had the ability to make very effective dancefloor tools for big rooms. It’s doubtful that anyone could have predicted how amazing his debut album would be. “One”, released in February on Ostgut Ton, is not just a collection of club tracks, but a fully realized and incredibly beautiful artist album that demands to be listened to the whole way through. Although he is a very skilled producer, at the end of the day, Ben Klock really shines behind the decks. He’s appeared at virtually every major European club, including Berghain, Panoramabar, Fabric, Fuse, Rex Club and countless others. Check out recent podcasts he did for Bodytonic and Fact for demonstrations of his formidable talent as a DJ. We are thrilled to have Ben join us for an extended set at The Bunker.

Fri 04.03 - THE BUNKER with Ben Klock+ Sandwell District + Ryan Crosson + MiskateSandwell District was undoubtedly one of the breakout labels of 2008. Not a ton is known about the label, but it appears that Function, Regis, and Female are somehow behind it. They have no website and do zero promotion. The records are beautifully packaged and pressed onto colored vinyl. The label was launched in 2002, and has only put out 13 releases since then, each one well worth owning. Their tracks have been licensed by Miss Kitten, Modeselektor, and Danny Tenaglia, and are being constantly caned by Dettmann, Klock, and the rest of the Berghain crew. Silent Servant, who opened for John Tejada at The Bunker in January, has relased several EPs for the label. Tonight, Sandwell founders Function and Regis will treat us to an extended live/dj set with laptops and plenty of analog gear.

Fri 04.03 - THE BUNKER with Ben Klock+ Sandwell District + Ryan Crosson + MiskateIt’s been a while since we had Bunker fave Ryan Crosson in the house, but we had to grab him when we found out he was in the states for a handful of gigs at WMC (including a live set at Sunday School For Degenerates). Ryan has released EPs for M_nus and Trapez in the past, and just released very well received EPs for Mathew Jonson’s Wagon Repair and Butane’s Alphahouse in 2008, in addition to remixes for Wolf + Lamb, Tic Tac Toe, and Einmaleins Musik. Ryan has played for us a handful of times over the past few years since his first NYC gig at The Bunker at subTonic in 2006, and while he always has a new sound, he never fails to impress. Tonight he treats us to a DJ set in the front room. Check his Bunker podcast here.

Fri 04.03 - THE BUNKER with Ben Klock+ Sandwell District + Ryan Crosson + MiskateMiskate is one of our very favorite producers. She sometimes falls in the shadow of her husband and Foundsound co-founder Someone Else, but her subtle, brain-frying productions are in a league of their own. She made the move from Philadelphia to Berlin a couple years ago, and has been regularly appearing at clubs around Europe ever since. Her live sets never disappoint, and tonight should be no different. Check her Bunker podcast here.

Fri 04.03 - THE BUNKER with Ben Klock+ Sandwell District + Ryan Crosson + MiskateIf you appreciate house and techno music with depth and sophistication played with tight technical skill and genuine feeling, Eric Cloutier should be on your radar. His monthly event, “Down,” held at Williamsburg lounge Oulu, has quickly become a favorite midweek attraction for dedicated heads seeking a deeper shade of techno than your average weekend warrior. Eric’s newest podcast, for the most excellent mnml ssgs blog, is well worth checking out.” – BeyondBookings.com
